Optiplex 9010 MT no bootable device

Question

Hey everyone

I have an optiplex 9010 that acts strange. It does not recognize the ssd.

I decided to reinstall windows 11 it just hangs and the screen goes dark around the end of installation.

The motherboard model is 0M9KCM it uses a 3rd gen intel cpu.

any ideas on what could be the problem?

I changed the bios from legay to uefi same as the win11 I created with rufus. This is the first time this has happened win11 used to work fine on the 4th gen optiplexes.

enter bios>sata operation and save it as AHCI. then complete clean Win 11 install  try above to see if it boot

@Jon139​ ,   @Tesla1856​ Yes it appears in the bios. The ssd is sata 2.5 inch. Good.   Set BIOS to UEFI, SecureBoot, and AHCI.   DiskPart 'clean' the SSD (down to completely raw and un-itialized).   Not Rufus ... use genuine Microsoft.com Media Creation Tool to create your flash-drive. Then , use it to clean-install Windows to empty SSD (just install to un-allocated space).

try replace cmos battery with a new battery then clear cmos by motherboard jumper.

I have Win 11 run without problem on 7010 i7-3770 using rufus USB clean install.

Re: It does not recognize the ssd.

you can try Dell diagnostics to see if ssd responds to ePSA normally.

the ssd should show up during Win 11 install as Disk 0, whereas Disk 1 is your boot USB (made by rufus).

if disk 0 shows up, delete all partitions on that disk then proceed to finish install

@redxps630​  I am still trying and have done all those steps I will report back. Right now it's still boot device not recognezed I even tried a disc with linux mint on it no boot.

Is the SSD SATA or NVMe (M.2 PCIe)? Does it appear in BIOS ?

@Tesla1856​ Yes it appears in the bios. The ssd is sata 2.5 inch.

There is one more thing I forgot to add it simply does not work correctly when connected to a 4ktv. I had to connect it to a monitor for it to work. On the tv it was black screens and timeouts wich only manual restart solved.

@Jon139​   please could you tell the settings that worked for you?  I've tried AHCI , UEFI .. Enable Secure  but it did not worked although the F5 run diagnostics  indeed sees the SSD , but the BIOS , updated to A30 still does not see the disc I even booted with Debian 13.5  live and ran the installed, it completed in 5 minutes, on the SSD ,  but.. when booting again the BIOS still does not see th disc,   .. weird.. Please could you share your settings?

@nsm.transom​ Remember to set the bios to uefi. The windows usb must also be created as uefi compatible in rufus.

Normally, you want UEFI and AHCI. If it won't install with SecureBoot, try with it off. I know Ubuntu-v25 did care, but not sure about other distros.   See the Disc? Like an optical CD/DVD? Sometimes it's easer to just use a USB-Flash-Drive instead (it's treated differently).
