OptiPlex 9010 NVMe support

Just wondering if anyone has installed a PCIe NVMe M.2 adapter into an OptiPlex 9010? Curious if anyone has done it and got it working according to the high speed specs of the NVMe disk. I'd be looking at a Samsung 970 EVO Plus connected to a PCIe 3.0 x4 card.

I see there have been quite a few BIOS updates (most recent A30) so perhaps Dell have been generous to include support.

Not holding my breath for boot support, but if it works according to spec then I'd be happy to add one as a second drive.

TBH I'm amazed my investment in this workstation has lasted so long! Purchased in 2012 with 32GB and an i7-3770 and later adding an SSD has still made it a relevant machine today (not a gamer!)

I am beginning my research into this same topic. Did you have success? Did yo need to download any new BIOS? (I wasn't expecting to need to)
I am considering a dual expansion card. I haven't yet figured out if that will treat it as 2 added drives or 1 bigger drive.

This can actually be done with a bios mod as dell took the driver out of the uefi bios and can on machines with a chipset as low as q67 all h77/z77/q77 boards with the intel 6/7 and above with the correct bios mod can boot a m2 drive.

a walkthrew for doing it on the 7010 and 9010 is here ------> https://www.tachytelic.net/2021/12/dell-optiplex-7010-pcie-nvme/#modify-and-upgrade-the-bios

make sure if you do this backup ya bios first and stuff otherwise possible dead bricked boards can happen and will happen that is very hard to get back working.

I don't know why dell took the driver and or options out and didn't provide it back in newer bios upgrades.

p.s. i also know this is an old post but looking for correct answers and information, I was also looking for

Thank-you. I just happen to still have a 9010 and was researching a way to boot from NVME. Perfect timing.
