Optiplex 9020 won't boot up

IMG_20191026_120548.jpg

I keep getting this message, if you can't read it in the picture it says: '' Error! Memory configured incorrectly. Please enter setup for memory information details

System halted!

Before I got this message it does some kind of bootloop but it boots too fast to even see the error codes and there is only one beep

One beep is a memory issue.

Two things to try (1) with it powered off, open the case and reseat (unplug then plug back in) the memory module(s).  If that doesn't help if you have more than one memory module installed, try one at a time in case one is bad.  (2) if reseating memory doesn't help, clear CMOS memory (with power off) remove the CR2032 coin cell battery on the motherboard for at least 10 minutes.  Reinstall and try.

hint, if it posts to  fast.

learn to unplug the HDD data cable. When any PC beeps or if errors go by too fast. (then see no boot device error)

or go in  the the BIOS page if possible and read the BIOS LOGS, even the old 380 Dell has that.

but the beep did not lie

so when did this happen?

ran for 10 years and today it died.

or ran for 10 years, and you messed with RAM and it failed now? not using  ESD strap? or hot swapped RAM.

do not work on PC inside until you learn the fine craft of how to discharge all capacitors in the PC after the AC cord is pulled from the rear of the PSU.

one guy long ago  did not believe me in 1965, I then pulled out this CAP, from store shelf. (we had 1000s of kinds)

goggles on.... (PPE)

and charged it up, then took a screwdriver, and shorted the 2 terminals, and that blew the screw driver end clean off, gone to ATOMS IRON (alloys), goggles off.

We have video of that now,  this DEMO teaches kids the power of a capacitor..

Something all techs need to see one time, to gain experience.

I used to show SEM photos to customers, see here you blew the bond wires clean off the die ! (ESD or hotswap)

The trick is NOT TO.

bad idea.

pull the PCs power cord from the wall

push the power button for 10 seconds and release or push 3 time for 3 second until all fans stop twitching

now and only NOW is the PC safe to slam in and out any thing at all inside any PC.

do not hot swap the ram or you will blow it up, and keep one hand (unused hand grounded, means touchingmetal)

x10 the RTC coin cell is now 10 years old, life span is 5-7 max or only 3 years if PC parked in say and attic for 3 years.  so time for a coin , if below 2.9v it EOL,

do the long reset first, case closed, no need to open the case first. (

so this.

test ram 1 by 1 in bank0 chan A slot.

I clean slots with CAN-O-AIR sold at walfart, (have shop air here)

do not ever swap memory with AC line connected, ever. nor do so with system capacitor charged.

if you see the MOBO Standby LED on the mobo most times center of the mobo; that meaNS STOP

you are doing it all WRONG. the LED must  be out. oK>?

if you did this wrong the hard reset will be the only cure... if LUCKY.
