Optiplex Micro Memory & Drive Upgrade Possibility
If an Optiplex Micro desktop has one SSD drive, can an HDD be added to expand its storage space? Also, if one such desktop is marked as 16 GB (1x 16GB) for the memory, does that mean there is another slot for memory expansion? And it is better to get additional memory than another one marked as 16 BG (2 x 8GB) right?

You can add a 2.5” sata hdd or ssd to 7070/7060 M.

That would depend, what is the exact model number of your Optiplex micro? Without that information any advice would be a pure guess.

7070 MFF or 7060 MFF on https://www.dellrefurbished.com. I need one for the home server setup. I just asked ChatGPT and the answer is adding an HDD on the Micro desktop is inconvenient due to the lack of internal space. It is better to go with a small form factor Optiplex desktop.

That would be great! I can plug in an HDD from a quite old Dell Inspiron desktop. I will have more purchase options when the Micro factor can be considered. Thanks.

If you're using Windows, just make sure there isn't 2 boot drives with the same Windows OS in the micro. If your old HDD is storage and another drive, like m.2, is being used for boot, it should work just fine. If storage is what is planned for the old HDD and it currently has OS on it, be sure to wipe it first.
Reason being for all of that is I tried having an older version of Win10 on a boot drive and newer version on another. They detected each other and Win10 corrupted itself and went to unrecoverable BSOD.

You're right about that. Optiplex MT's and SFF's are one thing (some get used as servers), but a Precision will make a better server than a micro any day of the week.

Thanks for your information. I like Dell hardware too. I actually will use a Linux server distro such as Ubuntu Server for my purpose. And later, I saw some workstations in the Precision line in the Dell refurbished site. They likely are more suitable and cost-effective in comparison to the Optiplex line for the home server.

So is it possible to put 2 ssds, or 2 notebook (2.5) drives in an 7070 micro?
