Optiplex SFF: Pre-sales tech support, please: "No Wifi Enablement"

Hi,

So I'm looking to buy a preconfigured Optiplex SFF, but I need Wifi.

Hmmm... the PC has no model number, never seen that before, it just says Optiplex Small Form Factor, is this a bug or a feature?

The specs say, "No Wireless LAN Card (no WiFi enablement)" (emphasis mine).

OK, fine, I can open it up and put in a card, and I've read Speedstep's excellent post about internal Wifi cards

What I don't understand is the meaning of "no WiFi enablement".

Does it not have a "E" keyed slot?

And since this model doesn't seem to have a number, I'm not sure I'm looking at the correct Setup and Specifications manual or Service Manual. I could assume it's a 7000, but y'know what happens when you assume......

Y'see the problem here?

Wondering if anyone can help me out.

Thanks in advance......

If it has 13th gen cpu, It is not 7000 (intel 12th gen).  The new optiplex for 13th gen cpu is small form factor 7010 (plus).  It has onboard m.2 wlan slot.https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/optiplex-7010-plus-small-ff/opti_7010_sff_plus_om/wireless-module?guid=guid-17e9c29d-abc5-44bd-95ce-79e58b869635&lang=en-us

some bto package has no wlan included to cut cost and lower price.

Thanks for your reply.

So what's with Dell dropping the model number? I went so far as to click on the magnifying glass to look at the front bezel and the back of this thing. No model number. Why?

7010 you say? Is Dell running out of model numbers? It wasn't so long ago that there was a 7010. I have a working 7020 sitting on my workbench........

Anyhow..................

they just call it small form factor.  the 7010 may be revealed on Dell product support site if you use the service tag to look up spec. https://www.delltechnologies.com/asset/en-us/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/technical-support/optiplex-small-form-factor-spec-sheet.pdf

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000212009/dell-optiplex-small-form-factor-plus-7010-system-guide

yes their creativity in naming ran out so back to 7010.   This may be interesting because the original 7010 is Intel 3rd gen and the new 7010 is 13th gen.  Looks like Dell is rounding off the 10 and back to the start line.  Dell could have called it Optiplex SFF 9010 instead of 7010 plus, which is a high end model compared to 7010 (not plus).  It is bewildering that in this model they do not make tower.  Looks like their sales record showed the previous SFF sold much better than tower.

Re:  So I'm looking to buy a preconfigured Optiplex SFF, but I need Wifi.

The new OptiPlex SFF configurations offer two different options:  Small Form Factor Plus and Small Form Factor.  If you need Wifi, select the configurations from Small Form Factor.

All of those are the newest model OptiPlex Plus 7010.  If you prefer the previous model w/Wifi, you can configure-to-order the OptiPlex 7000 SFF.
