reverse optical drive in Optiplex 9020 SFF

I have an Optiplex 9020 SFF.  Running well so far with one issue: my optical drive is pointing the 'wrong way'.  The way I have my desk laid out, my tower sits to the left of my monitors, and therefore the optical drive tray opens with the side that you put the disk facing a wall.  So, is there any way to reverse the drive so that the disk side of the tray faces the other way (possibly with a different drive caddy)?  Thanks!

Have you tried opening up the system and just flipping the DVD?

I am not sure what type of DVD unit is in it, but I used to do this in home-built SFF systems that I wanted to wedge a certain way. The internal plugs and screws usually don't matter, and the 5.25" hole was standard, but I have no idea what Dell uses to attach the DVD to the chassis in this particular model.

Hi @afireinside7710 ,

It's a slim DVD with no options to install at the opposite direction.

As a workaround, will you consider turning your PC upside down?

Da_Vinman, the 9020 uses a 'snap-in' caddy and the way that the caddy attaches to the rest of the system, there is only one way to secure it.  Also the way the caddy is designed, it is form fitting with a cut out for the power and sata cables that isnt there on the other side (see HERE)

Then the only real options are to:

1) Set your Optiplex in a different position - flip it, sit in on the side, etc.

2) Buy a cheap external USB slim-DVD drive for when you need it.
