Support Assist Updates – Watch Out!
In case this helps anyone else … just thought I’d mention I’ve had problems with my Dell OptiPlex AIO 7480 (running Win 10) since late Friday evening 3rd June.
I spotted there were 3 updates available prompted to me by Dell’s Support Assist. I installed them. Shortly after that, I spotted a red cross on my speakers icon in my system tray. Since then, I have trawled through almost every website reading relevant help to reinstate the audio. As far as my machine was concerned there was NO audio device.
I tried upgrading to Win 11 in the hope it would resolve this issue. No joy – I still had exactly the same problem.
Yesterday (Tuesday 7th June), I eventually gave up and reset my AIO back to as it was shipped to me. At least I had my audio available to me again and I could rebuild my Start Menu and start to install my various pieces of software. So far, so good.
This morning (Wednesday 8thJune), I spotted there were 7 updates for my computer in Dell’s Support Assist. I installed them.
MASSIVE MISTAKE!!! I now had no audio again! I am currently restoring my system using System Restore.
So, thank you Dell for nothing!
I shan’t be using Support Assist ever again.
