Upgrading GPU Optiplex 790

I'm looking to upgrade and install a GPU into the Optiplex to hosta Plex server. I need one with a at least a1060 processor. I don't mind upgrading the power supply. Any suggestions?

for plex server,  1080P?  what is HOSTA?  (hosting. you building a Plex server, tell what you plan to do first)

Load (users ) and what resolution, 1080P and how many TVs , is this at HOME>?  got Gigalan at home?

there IS no need to do that ever for plex. (no reasons stated so....)

I run my plex server headless so can you  easy. so as in No monitor at all, no GPU card at all needed.

the PC has its own port, there, for VGA, and 1 DP, display port , that is free, and works.

I use ANYDESK(tm) free  to work headless servers.  (look ma' no monitor  at all , headless it is called)

then set the 790 up from any PC you own.  remote, (anydesk installed both ends first)

why upgrade at all , do it first, see if it is fast enough (for YOU)

no usage load stated, 1 TV

the plex server is a video file server, streamed, mine is MKV, (MP4 too)  but run on any PC if you want PLEX.

my 790 is i5,   a i7-2600 runs in it too.   8GB of ram is plenty, as I have.

you failed by not trying first,  see if it works, first.  the if it  lags, find OUT why, it lags first .

(why) slow lan,  slow HDD, (even bad hdd , fails smart, as more are this old are bad on a 790)

slow CPU, low memory.   we find the bottle neck and fix that. (that is what we do serving anything)

ask how to do the  tests, if in fact there is a problem, and not guess. why spend cash for fun or useless ends.?

here is PLEX

I run it now for long long time not a problem ever. (but my server is real,  a DELL R710) and is headless.

I do not know how well plex runs on low ball PC, at all.  (would take me full day of testing to learn that)

I can also say a TV with ROKU added, is "NOTHING BETTER ON EARTH" ROKU PLEX is bee's knees good.

full featured, with FF , rewind and pause and skip modes +subs. work. as others do not.

answer 2,  790 old dog PC gen2 intel cpu is not prime. Gen4 up IS. buy 3020MT (far better)

enough ram, 4 to 8GB is enough. (2 is min)

is HDD the PC has a 9 year old HDD, right?, I cant see it or run smart tests on It and see make model, year, made nor hours nor if the HDD is bad as most are 9 years old and shows unrecoverable errors >0 (more than zero is A BAD HDD, for sure. Bad hdd are not only dead but slow and has file corruption, never good  that.

then I'd buy this fastest HDD on earth, 4TB or 6TB. by wonderful Seagate, ( have one) and it is super fast.

the wrong HDD , makes any server slow, or laggy. ok/ for sure 2 TV or more users.

The model is SEAGATE

ST6000DM001

the 4TB is just as fast.  225MB/s ave.  no other drive comes close.  (the magic if parallelism)

the public bench marks are TOP listed. for this drive,  and it is fast.

I assumed a dream of 300 more MKV?  no dream told at all and for sure MATTERS.

users (at same time on TV ,etc)

resolution of movies,

and how many movies hosted, (hosta?)

good luck to you . and cheers !
