Windows 7 update highly confusing
Unlike xp or 10/11
Win 7 has many update packs
ai suggested many different update packages
i have win 7 sp1 which fails to install .net 3.5. Install just crashes
I tried one update which fails too
maybe that update needs a prerequisite update
No Events found!

in the days of ai omnipresence, it is easy for lazy ppl like me to just read their recommendations, but it is just like novice users asking questions on the forum expecting a definite answer, often times hearing a multitude of answers and getting more confused. this is the state of ai answers, mixed with information and misinformation and one cannot tell how much is correct. spend time to do your own research is the only way to save yourself. do not expect ai to be tech savior,
I spent some more time reading wiki and microsoft learn, now I have better more lucid understanding
In May 2016, Microsoft released a "Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 which contains all patches released between the release of SP1 and April 2016. The rollup is a standalone installer
but read on,
To apply this update, you must install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB976932) and April 2015 servicing stack update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB3020369).
the first link is dead but I already have SP1 installed via DVD.
the second link is good, choose All supported x64-based versions of Windows 7

If you do not run the 2015 installer first, and run the big installer, I got error, it is not compatible.
after I run the 2015 installer, the big installer works.
next question:
how to build a roll up cumulative update for 2016-2020?

.NET 3.5 is activated in Windows feature
No need to install.
