XE, E8400, 4GB ram, ram upgrade?

Hello,

Ive got my hands on a Dell Optiplex XE with 2x 2gb DDR3 ram installed. From what ive read so far it has 4 DIMM slots, so basically two are free to use. Can i install another 2x 4gb DDR ram in there to run the system with 12gb?

Thanks.

ps: should i upgrade my bios first (if its not up to date).

Hello, are you sure that those are the specifications with the latest BIOS update? AO5 from 2013? I found user benchmarks (145000 entries) where people used 2x 4gb ram.

:edit: i really dont want to sound rude. I of course also read the manual before opening a thread, but i think its super outdated...max CPU listed for example is E7400.

I also found a thread about a Lenovo Thinkcentre M58 (uses same chipset, so excuse me mentioning it) where the owner updated his bios and could use 12gb configurations (2x2 + 2x4).

Well, my RAM and Optiplex came. BIOS was already up todate and it booted up without any problems (12gb now). Only Problem i have is that it only runs at 1066Mhz even tho 1333 should be possible with this chipset. I cant find any option to change it in the BIOS, but thats a minor problem for now. Ill leave that info here in case someone else has similar questions.
