Weird Thing
Hello, I got a T640 Server, the weird thing is when i first got it. It was ok the following didn't happen, but now for some reason, when windows shuts down the server it powers off (power button goes off) monitor screen goes blue. But the fans stay on and the blue indicator light is still lit holding down the power button does nothing. I then have to physically pull out the power cord to actually switch everything off. I can power up as normal via the power button. and windows boots up as normal no unexpected shutdown warning or anything, Windows doesn't see anything wrong. Any ideas. All i did was fill the server with disks and upgraded the raid card of which i didn't have this problem. (like it decided it was friday and from now on i am making the fans stay on)I have reset everything to factory setting, pulled the psu in and out of the machine, reset the bios, cmos removed the battery even when i first got the system i upgrade all firmwares and drivers via lifecycle .. But still it refuses to power off properly. Any ideas. Its not a problem more of an annoyance.. as i have to look at the power button light to see if it completed the windows shutdown procedure. The power supply is a kit single 1100w power supply, could it be this?
Thanks for any advice or if need more info please ask.

Hello again @brookejp,
I have been checking the logs. Thank you for sharing them with me. However, there are no errors in the life controller hardware log. Only the normal events of power on and power off. No warnings and no critical errors.
Regarding the hardware components, you are using 2 Samsung SSD 860. These SSDs are not enterprise certified drives for servers. I suggest you to remove the disks and try to see if the problem appears again.
All the firmwares are updated to the last level. So, apart from the unsupported disk. It seems to me it is not a hardware error. But you can try a Minimun to Post and check if the problem persist. Minimum to POST configuration is the config that has the minimum components required to complete POST. For a T640 below are the minimum configuration to POST:
One processor (CPU) in socket processor 1
One memory module (DIMM) in socket A1
One power supply unit
One power supply unit and PIB (with 2 power + 1 sideband cables
System board
You can try this hardware configuration. If with this Minimum configuration the servers boots and shuts down perfectly. Then you can add components one by one and check until the problem appears.
If you check all this and discard a hardware problem then you can focus on the software. It might be an OS problem, and you should check the OS events. Sadly, the server appears on our systems as it was not sold with an OEM OS. So the support we can offer you is limited. But I suggest you to check the logs and the event viewer to see if there is any error message or crash during shut down.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

Thanks i will try. I will reconfigure the machine back to the "as delivered" specs and see and proceed as you specify.
