Export a SupportAssist collection via iDRAC9

Summary: SupportAssist Collection can be manually created through the web interface, on Dell devices with iDRAC9. This article details how this is accomplished.

Article Content

iDRAC9 SupportAssist utility can create a SupportAssist collection, also known as Technical Support Report (TSR). iDRAC provides an application interface for gathering platform information that enables support services to resolve platform and system problems. iDRAC generates a SupportAssist collection of the server and then exports the collection to a location on the management station (local), to a shared network location such as FTP, Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP), HTTP, HTTPS, Common Internet File System (CIFS) or Network File Share (NFS), or sends this collection to technical support for troubleshooting and inventory collection. The collection generates a standard ZIP file.

  2. Click Maintenance → SupportAssist. (Fig. 1).
SLN306670_en_US__1icon If the server is not registered for SupportAssist, the SupportAssist Registration wizard is displayed. Registering is encouraged but not mandatory. If registration is not wanted click on CancelCancel Registration. Registration must be completed to automatically send the collection to Dell EMC Support. Learn more.

The Operating System and Application Data option is disabled and not selectable if (1) iDRAC Service Module is not installed and running or (2) Operating system BMC/iDRAC Pass-through is disabled in iDRAC.

  5. Collection Preferences: You can select datasets that must be filtered for Personally Identifiable Information (PII) (Fig. 2).

  6. Select the destination where Collection must be saved.

    • If the server is registered for SupportAssist workflow, the Send Now option is enabled. Selecting this option transmits the generated Collection directly to Dell EMC Support.
    • Save locally option allows you to save the generated Collection on the local system.
    • Save to Network option saves the generated Collection to user-defined CIFS or NFS share location.
