1750 With Xenons: Dual or Quad Processor?
I recently bought some 1750's with two 3.06GHz/533MHz front side bus, 1MB advanced transfer cache cpus. Or so I thought. When I installed Win 2003 and looked in PerfMon, it showed the system as having 4 processors. I looked through all the documentation on the Xeon cpu's to see if I missed something here ,,, but I don't see any reason why the system would have 4 cpus.... Where did the extra two CPU's come from?

Hi,
The "extra" processors are the result of a new technology from Intel called Hyper-Threading. These links from Intel and Microsoft explain the process and licensing issues.

If needed, you can disable Hyperthreading in the System BIOS of the server. Choose CPU information, and under there is a setting for Logical Processor. Disabling that option will turn off Hyperthreading, and your processor count will return to normal in the OS.

Hi,
Hyperthreading is reported the same in Win2000, you will see 4 processors. I do not know why the system summary is reporting the incorrect speed. What speed processor is shown in the System BIOS?

My "guess" is that Msinfo32.exe has a limitation on the speed calculation code. The new processors "most likely" expose this for all to see.
or you can take microsoft's word on it....
