Adding RAM to a fully populated R610
We have an R610 that has 12 x 4GB DIMMs for a total of 48GB. We'd like to bump this to 64GB and are trying to work out the best way to do so. Could we remove 2 x 4GB DIMMs from each bank and replace them with 2 x 8GB DIMMs? Reading up on the channels, if this configuration is supported, I'd say we put the 8GB DIMMs in slots A1, A2, B1 and B2 and leave 4GB DIMMs in A3-A6 and B3-B6.

Good morning.
Sounds good in theory, but it won't work. Each channel (A1,A4; A2,A5;A3,A6; B1,B4;B2,B5; B3,B6) has to be populated identically. Adding a 3rd 8gb DIMM to A3, B3 will not work either, as 72GB of RAM is not a supported option. You would have to replace all the 4gb DIMM's with 8 x 8gb DIMM's, They would be in slots A2,A3, A5,A6 and B2,B3, B5,B6 and the bios set to Advanced ECC. A1,A4 and B1,B4 would be left empty.
