BIOS update failure: "System Serivces not running"

Trying to update BIOS on R720 from ver.1.6.0 to 2.5.2 (using BIOS_MKCTM_WN64_2.5.2.EXE package), OS is WS2012 R2 -

update utility hits "System Services is disabled" error, and fails belly up.

What's interesting, on the other identical R720 the utility ran just fine, and BIOS upgraded without issues.

The only relevant thread I've found is this:

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/956/t/19608099

but this time it's iDRAC7 (not 6), and *** I can't get find anything in System Setup > iDRAC Settings, neither hitting Ctrl+E during boot gives me anything.

Same issue with an R620 (updating from BIOS ver.1.6.0 to 2.5.2 using package: BIOS_CNN4X_WN64_2.5.2.EXE).

Help.

Hello

Trying to update BIOS on R720 from ver.1.6.0 to 2.5.2 (using BIOS_MKCTM_WN64_2.5.2.EXE package), OS is WS2012 R2 -

I just updated an R720 running Server 2012 R2 using that package without issue.

Same issue with an R620 (updating from BIOS ver.1.6.0 to 2.5.2 using package: BIOS_CNN4X_WN64_2.5.2.EXE)

If the iDRAC and LCC are as far behind in updates as the system BIOS then it may be having communication issues with them. I would suggest updating the LCC and iDRAC and then attempting the BIOS again. If you still have issues then update the system BIOS through the iDRAC embedded web server. Go to the update and rollback section of the iDRAC web page and use a 32 bit Windows DUP to perform the update there. You can update most firmware that way.

Thanks
