Convert PowerEdge 1600SC to Graphics Workstation
Hello to All -
We would like to convert our PE 1600SC server to a graphics workstation with a high-quality video system and a desktop OS. Not sure how to manage the RAID controller(s) or installing Windows XP or whatever OS will be best -- it now has SBS 2003, 3 x 36GB high-speed drives in RAID 5, Dell SCSI 320-1 PERC 4/SC, LSI Logic PCI-X Ultra320 SCSI Host Adapter, 1 GB RAM, XEON 2.8.
This machine will be used (if we can convert) for digital photo and video production work using Adobe software.
Thank You for your help,
John

Hi, I am trying to do the same thing on 1600sc with similar configuration. This is the process I used to install windows XP Pro on the 1600SC - it installs but will not boot into XP.
- I downloaded the perc drivers from dell web site and copied it on to a floppy
- Ran the XP setup from CD, hit f6 to install the perc driver. XP sees the hard-drive and continues to install.
- I follow the XP installations instructions and it successfully installs windows XP on the machine.
But when I boot into Windows XP, it attempts to load XP but then reboots by itself about midway. I tried to load it by going into safe mode and it does the same thing.
Any help would be appreciatedon how to fix this...
Are there people out there who have successfully installed XP Pro on SC1600?
