Dell PE-R320 CPU Temperature is Always High
Hi, 3 years back we bought 2 qty of PE-R320 servers, it's working well without any issue, for some reason we want to monitor CPU temperature so i installed a small executable software to monitor CPU Temp (CPU Thermometer) I can see Core-1 to 4 temperature was Min - 58°C to 65°C CPU usage : Core-1 to 4, Min 1 % to 5 % only Clocks Speed shows : value 2400Mhz and Max - 2400Mhz processor model : Intel Xenon - 2407v2 - 2.4 Ghz Can anyone help me to solve the CPU temperature issue, all the 2 R320 servers has the same reading, i have few other model Power edge servers like R200, R710, 2950 etc..but for those model i have no CPU temp issue except R320 model..i just updated the BIOS the issue remains same.. Question: For R320 Server the Clocks Speed shows like that and does not vary the value : value 2400Mhz and Max - 2400Mhz For Other server model the clock speed value vary every once sec Example: value 1500Mhz and Max - 2400Mhz

Please look at the current picture about CPU Temp, I installed OpenManage Server Administrator as this was only used to monitor my current server hardware functioning status, I already updated BIOs, Chipcet, Fimware etc..no use the CPU Temp remain same, I could see my hardware from OpenManage Server Administrator like CPU, FAN Speed etc...all green everything shows as normal but CPU Temp is always stay between 56 to 66 °C
my question is i have few other dell power edge server which CPU Temp always stay between 30 to 45 °C, I believe is it not normal somewhere something wrong dell OpenManage shows all functioning normally so i can not find a way where is the problem. any help please..

a non problem problem
learn how each generation of CPU burns power.
this is easy to learn at Intel.com in say 1 hours work.
learn that some use 15watts and others burn 120watts under full load.
some burn lots of power doing , nothing. much. (old gens)
remember this is wasted power, that makes heat and the fans expel it, so 65c is normal, on this box.
80 W TPD, under full load burns 80watts, but you need to put it in the variable power mode. in bios.
looks from your chart it burns 20watts and make 60C heat, what it would do with full load (no production) IDK.
You can get free benchmark software that has load test, to see if the thermal systems work off line.
finding real data online for this processor is not easy.
Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2407 v2
is 6 years old and does burn power. 80watts is that. (it is dynamic)
make sure
Turbo Boost Technology , is active, so it can run cool.
can I ask if the heat sink fins are clean, ? they can clog every year, in no clean room setups, like in a home and how cool is the home?, (no usage stated at all, home/shop/work lab/etc, locations matter)
But if the fans sound happy , I bet all is in this regard.

the dynamic nature of CPU. (why waste power doing nothing, that laptops , use x10 more effectively)

what makes you think 65c is wrong, it is not 90c as the CPU self shuts down inside per the datasheet on IT.
Do not compare 1 server model to another, means 2 non same CPU, same CPU intel numbers.
do not compare 1 generation of CPU to there, and think the all burn same power some burn 80 to 120 watts.
id need all numbers off the top of your CPU to see what it really is, and steppings, and die revisions for shrinks.
The newest one (speeds same) run cooler.
each generation of CPU burns power based on this shrink ( my gen 7 CPU runs cool as cucumber)
my older gen 4s and 5s are like frying pan hot. and need special cooling efforts and checks.
go in to bios and turn on , low power mode, not max performance mode, end.
The BIOS in your Server monitors heat, if the BIOS is happy why are not you, if the fans dont scream then why worry., The BIOS or DRAC (it his its own bios) runs the fans and is super smart, why not trust it?
what is you ambient temperatures, 68F or 100f in the garage? IDK, not me.
