Dell PowerEdge R630 correct riser 1 part numbers
Hello,
We bought a Dell PowerEdge R630 with a dual E5 Xeon CPU inside. When we boot up the system for the first time we encoutered the error "HWC2005 The system board Riser cable or interconnect is not connected, or is improperly connected." After searching for hours on the internet and Dell Forums we think that this server is configured with a non dual CPU supported riser 1. When we take out riser 1 and let riser 3 inside the system, the server will acually boot up without any error. As soon as we get riser 1 inside the server the error showed up again. My question is which part number for the riser 1 is supported for a dual CPU?
Thanks for any response!

Hi, when we accept the risers as correct, it may give this error if it does not see the second processor. But you stated that you saw the processors. In that case, I would have suspected the incompatible or faulty riser at first. However, it is difficult to know this directly. In this regard, I recommend that you consider Marco's advice. Hello, thanks for choosing Dell.
There are two types of R630s. One Two-riser chassis , The other Three-riser chassis.
From the back, # 1 is on the left.
As you can see from the link (page 169), riser#1 -> Both the processors must be installed to use riser 1 slots

You need to check your riser configuration first.
I see two parts for that.

Hello, thank you for the quick response!
We have an R630 with 3 PCIe chassis. We don't use any PCIe modules. We currently have a 0DJG93 riser 1 in it but I think that this riser 1 model only meant for single socket purposes but I am not sure.
Could you verify this for me if this model is the wrong one?

Hello,
Thanks for the quick response! I can confirm that we are using this riser. But when I installed it it shows the error as I described above. But when I remove riser one (only the card). The error is gone and server boot up normally.

Hi @pos-sudo,
The DPN# DJG93 you provided is the right riser 1. That riser is controlled by CPU 2. Right riser 3 would be DPN# KKVN7. Both the processors must be installed to use riser 1 slots.
Probably it may be good that you can let us know what are the riser DPN# that you have, and we'll try to check.

Hello,
please can you check if you have other errors logged in the iDRAC?
The problem is very strange, I suspect a hardware problem on the motherboard or a riser. From what I see the part numbers are correct. Is the system out of warranty? If so, you can request a quote for a more in-depth analysis from technical support.

Hi @pos-sudo,
Can you confirm with visual inspection of CPU1 and CPU2 are installed in the server? Can you do a screenshot of the BIOS on CPU information? What are the CPU model that is installed in the server?
Have you verified that iDRAC/LCC and BIOS have been up-to-date?

Hello,
We have proxmox running and it is showing 2 sockets Intel Xeon E with 56 cores in total. Also the IDRAC sees 2 physical CPU sockets installed. The BIOS is up to date (2.16.0).
CPU model is: Intel Xeon E5-2680v4 14 cores 28 threads 2.4Ghz.
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I check the logs only error is that I don't have a PSU2 connected but no further errors. But what I did do is let riser 3 inside and take out only the riser 1 card. Then no riser card error displayed also I ran an EPSA Diagnose via BIOS and it doesn't show any processor or hardware error he passed all checks (green checkmarks). Can we rule out that there is any hardware/motherboard error since I run this check?
Can we conclude that the riser 1 card is defect with this tests in mind?
Thanks in advanced!
