Dell PowerEdge T610 memory upgrade?
I have been asked to upgrade a T610 server that currently has 80GB of memory in it. I have been told that the system was setup in dual channel configuration and that it has at least 2 16GB sticks of memory in it. I cannot shutdown the system at this time to look what is in there, but just knowing the system total I'm fairly sure that it has 2 16GB sticks in bank 1 and 2 4GB in bank 2 on each cpu.
Looking at the manual for this server, it doesn't mention 16GB sticks at all. So my question is does this server support 3 16GB sticks per channel? Also is this the best configuration for this system? Would there be any performance reduction if we filled all three slots of bank 1 with 16GB sticks and all three slots of bank 2 with 4 GB sticks on each cpu?
Thanks!

Aclbs,
To clarify, the T610 memory channels are laid out as such;
So with using Advanced ECC (First two channels per CPU populated identically with the third channel unused), you wouldn't be able to identically match Channel 0,1 with 3 16gb dimms.
In order to use all 3 channels you would need to access the BIOS Memory Settings and then change the mode to Optimizer. You would then be able to use all 3 of the channels, which you would populate the white tabbed slots (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3) with the 16gb dimms. You would then populate the black tabbed slots (A4, A5, A6, B4, B5, B6) with the 4GB dimms. That would allow the use of all the channels, as well as matching the configuration across those 3 channels. In this configuration the server will not have a performance reduction, just the opposite, it will increase.
In regards to the manual not showing the 16Gb dimms. That is due to support being added after the RTS of the server. If you are concerned, I would suggest updating the BIOS and ESM/Drac to current. You can find the updates here.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi,
Currently, I have 8 GB (1GB in each slots - PC3 10600E) in my server T610. I just bought a single 16GB (PC3 12800E). After I installed the memory, it shows invalid configuration during boot up. I pressed F1 to continue. After getting into the windows, it only detects 8 GB. How to configure correctly? Please advise.
Thanks.
