Dell R420 Stuck on Memory Configuration

Question

Purchased additional RAM for Dell R420 Server. With CPU1 and RAM all DIMM slots filled the server boots normally.

Once 2nd CPU and RAM is added the server is stuck gets stuck on Memory Configuration on boot. Have left it running for an hour with not change.

iDRAC logs only show messages bout FANs, 2nd PSU. Have looked at manual and used slots A1, A2,A3 and B1, B2, B3.

Any help or troubleshooting steps are appreciated.

Yes CPU models are same.Intel Xeon E5 2430v2.
Existing RAM was F3-1600C11S-8GNT 8 GB X 4 stick
New Memory is HP 698651-154 8 GB X 2 sticks

Just tested 1 CPU with 6 sticks and server boots
When I add 2nd CPU and 3 sticks per CPU it stops booting

Is second CPU model is same as first CPU? Can you share the details of all 6 memory modules and error shown in iDRAC.

I would recommend first try with 4 nos of F3-1600C11S-8GNT 8 GB with 2 CPU. You can populate A1,A2 and B1,B2 and see whether server is booting with this.

Tried this with the existing memory, it does not boot. Stuck on same screen.

Also, tried the CPU2 in CPU1 just to confirm 2nd CPU is not bad. And server boots with 2nd CPU in it and all 6 RAM sticks.

Problem only happens with 2 CPU's and any number of RAM added.

That is interesting. Can you ensure server have latest BIOS and iDRAC FW

Haven't done this yet. But realized we haven't changed the rizer for the 2nd CPU.  Im guessing this is a requirement.
