Dell T110 - additional memory and video card issue

Yes the 4 GB Dimms work when I remove the video card.  The error still happens if I remove the 1 GB Dimm's and just have the 4 GB in.

Any clue where I could find the document limitations?  I had Dell Enterprise support on it and they couldn't come up with anything, ofcourse they also don't support the configuration because it wasn't purchased through them.

If it is not in the online documentation/manual for the T110, I'm not sure where there would be any official/documented limitations.  You could try reading the Intel sheets on the processor/chipset.  Dell doesn't actually support any video configuration on these servers.

Sometimes, the system can only handle so many resources at one time, and the T110, being a very entry-level server, could be one of those examples.  On some systems (Dell and others), when you configure it, it says you cannot have certain combinations of processor/video, video/memory, processor/memory, etc.  This could be because of BIOS, resource, or chipset restrictions/limitations.

So, I take it that the 4GB DIMM's work when you take the video card out (just making sure your 4GB DIMM's actually work in the system at all)?  What if you take out the 1GB DIMM's and keep in the 4GB DIMM's with the video card - is it just the combination of the 4GB DIMM's with the video that makes it croak?

No it was a pain to even find one that you could use in the server because it only support AGP * or something like that.

Have you swapped out the video card for another?

It's not AGP ... I think it's been at least 6 years since any systems of any kind shipped with AGP slots, and even then servers didn't have them.  It just doesn't have a typical x16 PCIe slot for graphics cards.  You would have had to find an x8, x4, or x1 PCIe card.

Yes,the more memory you have, the more power it will require, but I wouldn't be sure on a real-world quantification of the effect.

Sorry brain fart....correct not AGP, PCIe x8.  I picked it based on a bunch of different postings online of people having success with it.  Even found a person with the same memory and video configuration that seemed to be working, ended up being a different Crucial memory SKU.

Just had an interesting finding, the GeFOrce 210 has a maximum of 30.5 watts and the Dell hardware manual says no cards above 25 watt maximum.

Would the additional memory cause more strain on the power supply?  Such that if both were added that it would have issues?

I have a Dell T110 and a ASUS NVIDIA GeForce 210 card that I can not get to work together at all.  How did you get yours to work?

Resolved:  I returned my ASUS NVIDIA geforce 210 and bought an ATI Radion 5450 HD silent video card.  Installed effortlessly and works great.  Now I have dual monitors on my Dell power edge T110.  Only problem is that the ATI Management GUI that runs in the system tray crashes occasionally.

First I'm running Windows 7 and I did upgrade my powersupply to a 750W Standard ATX.

I just purchased some 4GB memory 4 of them.  Total of 16GB.  I'll try and post soon If they work.  They are DDR3 1333 10600 timing 9 9 9 24.

I would check your timing on the memory you just purchased.  It may be DDR3 1333  But It  could be 10660 or 10666 and I don't know if those will work.

And the timing could be different from the 9 9 9 24.

Today I'm still on the basic 2GB it came with.

I never got it to work, just pulled the video card for the time being so that I could use it with the additional memory.  Looks like I got a couple other posts recently that might help.
