Error message on Dell Power Edge T310 Server

Good day, my name is Earle [ADMIN NOTE:  Personal information removed per privacy policy].

We bought seven (7) Dell Power Edge T310 Servers for the seven government primary school computer labs.

We have being encountering problems on some of these servers.

However, for now, I will give you the problems we have been encountering on the particular server:

Service tag: [ADMIN NOTE:  Service Tag removed per privacy policy]

Express Service Code: [ADMIN NOTE:  Express Service Code removed per privacy policy]

The display on the server display is showing the following error message: "2110 multibit error on DIMM A6. Reseat DIMM"

During booting, the following messages will display on the screen: "Memory Initialization Warning! Memory size may be reduced

MEMBIST failure - The following DIMM has been disabled by BIOS: DIMM 02"

"Memory Initialization Warning! Memory size may be reduced

MEMBIST failure - The following DIMM has been disabled by BIOS: DIMM 04"

"Memory Initialization Warning! Memory size may be reduced

MEMBIST failure - The following DIMM has been disabled by BIOS: DIMM 06"

The system then asked to press F1 to continue or F2 to enter Setup.

If F1 is pressed, it would boot to the log on prompt and got the the desktop. Sometimes, however, it would freeze before it reaches the desktop.if it reaches the desktop, and I check the memory, it would report that 5.99GB of the 12.0GB of RAM is usable. The Hyper Virtual Machine would fail to start so that kits could log on to the server.

If F2 is pressed, the system would simply go to Setup, but no meaningful change could be done to the memory settings.

I indulge your kind assistance on the matter.

Earle

Being in the States, you can call Dell Support for one-on-one, real-time assistance at 800-822-8965 ... it is always free, regardless of warranty status, and you will get a Support agent in the States.

You need to open your box and reseat the memory (remove, put back in).  If that doesn't work, then you need to do some elimination to find the culprit.  I would boot up with a single memory stick in the first slot, removing and rotating through all memory sticks until you find the one(s) that fails.  You might also consider clearing the NVRAM using the jumpers on the motherboard.

Hello Earle

It sounds like the DIMM in slot 6 or possibly slot 6 itself is faulty. Slots 1,3,5 are in channel A and 2,4,6 are in channel B. The two channels must be populated identically. Based on the information you have provided it sounds like you have 6x2GB DIMM's populated through the channels. With DIMM 6 failing the entire B channel is being disabled because the failure causes a mismatch of the channels.

I would recommend following the suggestions of the error and reseating DIMM 6. If that does not resolve the issue then I would recommend swapping DIMM 6 with another DIMM in the server. If the error persists with slot 6 then it is an issue with the system board. If the error follows the DIMM to the new slot then you have a bad DIMM.

Thanks
