GPU on PowerEdge T630
Hi,
I see on the manual of the T630 server, on the installation guidelines, that each GPU should only support up to 6 GB of memory. So does that mean the server will not fully use the NVIDIA TESLA K80 GPU, which has 12 GB of memory? Does anyone here have experience running GPU on a T-PowerEdge Server?
Thank you for any support. It is a very old model from my university lab that I don't know where to seek help...
Some further questions...
- Does the T630 support the TESLA K80 GPU, which has more than 6 GB of memory?
- There are 4 slots of PCIe x16, will it fully support 4 GPUs? The manual says that installing 2xGPUs has a higher priority than 4xGPUs, does that mean the 3rd and 4th are downclocked?
- How to check if it even supports GPU? I saw that it needs to be "GPU-enabled" or something to run GPUs. I got the tower from my university without any further information...

Hello,
Yes, it is doable. I am currently running 4x K80 in my server, which is essentially an 8x GPU setup. Runs great. You just need to note some parts as you set them up.

Hello,
It will be something to find out from the engineering from my side, I may need to open a case up to check if it's limited speed to 6GB. Could you private message me the server's service tag.
There is a list of tested verified GPU working on the server, but K80 is listed. There is K2A, K20A, M60 and K40C, but on the speed limitation, I may need to clarify that.
It does support fully 4 GPU, it is mentioned that slot priority that needed to be populated first.

Any updates? I myself mistakenly purchase the Tesla K80 and I have a dell poweredge T630. Can I quickly know if it is something that is doable or I should definitely return it back?
Thank you.

Hi, I've checked spec sheet for T630 https://dell.to/3JsQ9PS and GPU card installation guidelines https://dell.to/3Jvgi0p but they don't mention Tesla K80 so it may not be compatible. I've also checked spare part system for T630 and there is no Tesla K80. Sometimes our community users share that they can run cards that are not showing compatible. But I couldn't see a post with this card with the T630
I found recent GPU matrix but it does not include T630 https://dell.to/3NmznDc

@robin979797 thank you very much. I did attempt to install it but I failed at the wirering. The server would not start when the GPU is connected and the error was not about the fan. surly because of the wirering that wasn't done right. by any change do you have a amazon or a ebay link I could use to get the adaptors?
