How to set the mac address?

Howdy!

We have to replace the main board in a 2850. Unfortunately we run some software on this machine which is protected by a license key. The key is created based on the mac address of the active onboard NIC.

Changing the main board will change the mac address and so make the license key useless. The software vendor charges $500 for a new license key.

I would like to avoid that.

Is there any way to set the mac address on the new main board?

TIA

Have you asked the vendor of your software how to transfer the license to a new MAC address in case of a NIC failure? Or do they expect NICs to be 100% perfect for eternity?

Also, the MAC address is hard coded and can't be changed.
