Improper iDRAC MAC address configured on multiple servers

Hello all,

Probably someone catch similar situation. We have network issue on multiple Dell servers (PowerEdge 620, 630 )

Servers lost remote control via IPMI tool due to improper iDRAC MAC  address. For some reason iDRAC MAC address was changed to this one 00:00:00:00:00:01. Sometimes we have issue when ARP cache table contains conflicts, multiple IP addresses with MAC 00:00:00:00:00:01.

Is it any ideas what can be reason for issue and how to fix it?

We can get from OS some details about system:

racadm getsysinfo

Firmware Version = 2.21.21.21
Firmware Build = 12
Last Firmware Update = 11/23/2015 14:28:26
Hardware Version = 0.01
MAC Address = 00:00:00:00:00:01

Embedded NIC MAC Addresses:
NIC.Integrated.1-3-1 Ethernet = E0:DB:55:21:E9:66
NIC.Integrated.1-4-1 Ethernet = E0:DB:55:21:E9:67
NIC.Integrated.1-1-1 Ethernet = E0:DB:55:21:E9:64

ipmitool lan print

reports this MAC address

MAC Address : 00:00:00:00:00:01

Hello

I would suggest that you update the iDRAC, system BIOS, and LAN on motherboard to the latest. If the issues persists with current BIOS and firmware then post details to reproduce the issue.

Thanks

Some systems have latest firmware. Issue still exists. Unfortunately I don't have exact steps to reproduce it and don't know what can be reason for it. Any ideas what can be investigated are welcome.

I guess it can be software issue or network infrastructure related. However in same subnet  we have Dell 620 servers and they work well.

We still can see that original MAC address is available via output.

RAC Information:
RAC Date/Time = Thu Sep 22 10:16:56 2016

Firmware Version = 2.30.30.30
Firmware Build = 50
Last Firmware Update = 05/19/2016 14:16:40
Hardware Version = 0.01
MAC Address = 00:00:00:00:00:01

Embedded NIC MAC Addresses:
NIC.Integrated.1-3-1 Ethernet = E0:DB:55:22:09:7A
NIC.Integrated.1-4-1 Ethernet = E0:DB:55:22:09:7B
NIC.Integrated.1-1-1 Ethernet = E0:DB:55:22:09:78
NIC.Integrated.1-2-1 Ethernet = E0:DB:55:22:09:79

Yes, this was solved. However, it requires help from Dell side. Just try to connect with support if it is possible.

Did you solve this issue?  I am seeing the same thing on a bunch or our servers.

Hello for everyone.

I have the same problem on my R620

I had the same issue. Connecting to the serial port interface and disabling flexnet addresses worked to fix my issue.

To verify the issue, I connected a laptop to the serial interface and ran Putty on COM1.  After logging in, I used the command "getflexaddr" to see the problem.  The commands "getflexaddr -i 1" and "getflexaddr -i 2" and "getflexaddr -i 3" and "getflexaddr -i 4" help to see the problem more closely.

To fix it, I powered off all 4 computers and ran the commands "setflexaddr -i 1 0" and "setflexaddr -i 2 0" and "setflexaddr -i 3 0" and "setflexaddr -i 4 0" to disable flexnet on all 4 network interfaces (for my Dell PowerEdge FX2 with 4 FC630 servers).
