IPMI error code 2900:0221 Power supply failure detected on PE R710
My VMware ESXi host recently took itself offline. When I was looking for the root cause, I ran a diagnostic test on my PE R710, and the following error was generated:
Error code: 2900:0221.
Msg: IPMI - : power supply: Power supply sensor (Status) Failure detected "PS 2"
The given error code and message can be used by Technical Support to help diagnose the problem.
Do you want to continue testing?

I saw a post online about updating the BIOS and firmware, which I did. We are now running BIOS version 6.4.0. I reran the test with the same results. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this problem? If the problem is indeed a failing power supply or a sensor on a power supply, how do I tell which one is bad? The lights on both power supplies look the same from the back of the server. This unit is no longer under warranty.

I used the Dell Repository manager (Data Center Version) 2.0 to create a Linux ISO file install on CD and boot/install updated BIOS & drivers. How do I tell what Power supply firmware version is currently installed?
Since iDRAC is not installed/configured on my R710, I plan to follow this procedure to clear the OMSA logs (from another ticket):
1. reboot, and
2, during the bootup process, before the OS starts to load, you will be prompted for the Cntrl-E to enter idrac screen.
3. Once in that screen, scroll down to System Event Log menu, hit Enter then
4. scroll down one to clear the system event log.

I went on-site and followed your procedures with my R710. After booting to the OEMI area, I found an inventory view, and I saw that my PSU firmware version was 03.02.63.
I reran the complete HW diagnostics, and it found no errors, so I think everything should be good to go!

i haven't done anything to my dell hardware for at least 5 years now it keeps shutting down after running about 30 minutes i ran systems diagnostics and received this error 2900:0221 o/s critical shutdown sensor [0x00] Critical stoppering O/S run.
any ideas how to solve

Hello,
2900:0221 error indicated there are errors in the hardware log that need to be addressed.
It is not a test that failed but a message to check the log.
Did you check the SEL (System Event Log) in the iDRAC or through <CTRL+E> in POST to access the iDRAC configuration and review logs?
Let us know any errors you find along with your server model you are using.
