Issue upon motherboard replacement

We have a Poweredge 1850 that had a 0RC130 motherboard with two SL7ZF CPUs installed. It ran fine, but one of the memory slots was shorted so we ordered a replacement motherboard. We received a 0D8266, installed it, and now we get nothing when powering up. I've tried reseating the CPUs and booting from one CPU at a time without the memory installed and it continues to simply sit there with the fans running after I power it on until I shut it down. Is it possible that something is incompatible with the board, being that it isn't the exact same make? Or is it a greater liklihood that we received a bad motherboard? Thanks.

Well, you either got a DOA motherboard or you damaged it or the processors while installing the processors.  I would test with the old board before telling the seller they sold/sent you a DOA board.  That's my two cents.

Yes, the processors are attached to the heatsinks.

There is only one revision of the motherboard for the 1850, but there will be several part numbers that represent different factories, batches, or even manufacturers.  It is possible that the "new" board has an old BIOS version that does not support the processors you have ... or it could be DOA.  Try clearing the NVRAM using the jumpers on the motherboard first though.

When you put in the processors, was the processor attached to the heatsink?  (Sorry if overly-basic ... just checking.)

I inserted them while still attached. It did occur to me that they might not be fully seated. I'll try detaching them. Thanks.

Were they attached to the heatsinks when you actually put the processors into their slots?  Or did you first detach the processors from the heatsink THEN put the processor in the slot, locking it down with the locking lever?

I tried each CPU on its own in slot 1 to no avail. I don't see any damaged pins, either. I'll have to take the whole thing apart to put the old board back in and see if it all still works with it.

Do the processors work if you put them back in the original machine?  A common problem with 8G machines is the heatsink sticks to the processor, and with it attached, it is IMPOSSIBLE to properly seat the processor in the slot, so they MUST first be separated ... carefully.  Trying to mount the processor in the slot while attached to the heatsink is a very good way to bend or break pins.  Make sure the locking arm is used to lock the processor into place after it is installed in the slot.  I would check the processors for any missing pins as well.  Try a single processor (then the other if one doesn't work) in the first processor slot to make sure it isn't just a single processor that is damaged.

Still nothing. I reset the NVRAM jumper, reseated the CPUs after detaching the heatsinks and even tried swapping the CPUs. No change. I'm guessing at this point the motherboard is DOA?

The old board is behaving the same way, except the amber light doesn't flash. I suppose I must have damaged the processors, though there's no perceptive physical evidence. Thanks for your help.
