Lifecycle Controller Repair Package

Hello,

I have an R610 that boots with “System Services Disabled”, and eventually a notification of iDrac6 failure.

I swapped out the iDrac6 Enterprise card to make sure that wasn’t the problem, and the boot still fails.

I read a post that stated that the next step to try is to run the “lifecycle controller repair package” to try to reflash that firmware.  Many posts all talk about running this from the iDrac6 web interface, which of course I cannot do, as the iDrac6 has failed.

One post talked about running it from the Dell Repository Manager.  Unfortunately, the post did not give a lot of detail about *how* to run it from the DRM.  I have downloaded and installed DRM on that server, but not sure how to proceed?  Can anyone give me some more detailed information on exact steps?

Also, if this fails too, can I simply replace the LC component with a new one?  That component is, I believe, combined with the component I look at as the iDrac6 Express?  If this can be replaced, it may be simpler that the whole DRM route.

Thanks.

Dan,

I purchased a new iDrac6 Express/LC and replaced the failed one in the server.

Worked perfectly, all is good again.

Thanks.

Hello

DRM is used to create repositories. A repository would not be more helpful than an individual installer package or image file.

There is a minimum level of functionality required to run a repair package on the LCC. If the iDRAC is not loading then you can try running an update package from an operating system on the iDRAC. The LCC requires the iDRAC to function, so you will need to get the iDRAC functional before troubleshooting the LCC.

The iDRAC enterprise module is not required for the iDRAC to function. The iDRAC Express module is required for the iDRAC to initialize properly. The Express module should be part of a system board replacement. You may be able to find someone parting out a system that is selling just the Express module. The Express module is a rectangular black plastic cartridge connected to the system board. It is held in place by a metal clasp that is about the thickness of a paper clip.

I suggest reseating the iDRAC Express module, updating the iDRAC firmware from the OS, and then replacing the iDRAC Express module or system board if you cannot find a module as a stand-alone part.

Thanks
