n00b server operator/Need help with DRAC

Hi everyone, I am a personal server owner, and I'm used to building my own servers from any scraps I can find.  I finally saved enough money to buy a dell poweredge 1950.  I've very happy with it's construction and power.

But I am completely befuddled with the DRAC setup.  All of the set up guides I see are making assumptions that I'm already at a certain point.  For instance, I have three network ports on the back of the machine.  I have dual broadcom, and the drac card.

I'm sending theis machine off to a colo facility, so will most likely only have one network drop.  So for starters, which bleeding port do I put the cord in?  Do I have to put it intro the drac card itself?  Does it go into one of the broadcom ports, and then the drac card is accessable via the "shared" option?

And then where do I go from there?  I feel like I have tried everything, but I cannot even get teh DRAC console to come up on the machine itself, never mind another machine.

If anyone can help a rookie server owner out, I would really appreciate it.

thanks,

Rich

If you want to access the DRAC, you need to plug a cable into the DRAC itself. You also need to set network details (IP Address etc) in the DRAC bios, which is accessible during boot.

You will need a separate cable and ip address to access the drac, to pull it up go to the IP address of the drac pretty simple once you get there.
