Need help with t430.

Hello, recently I got t430, it came with xeon 2609v4. But it worked well.

I tried to upgrade to 2 xeon 2680v4, but when I pressed power button the system fan span for a second and stopped, after that no life in the pc, I removed the new cpus and put 2609 back and still no sign of life.

Only thing is there is a green led on motherboard when psu is plugged.

And when I remove a cable named pib-Conn the psu power on and system fan keep spinning but no picture and no heat on cpu.

I think there is a short either in the power distribution board or the motherboard.

Because one of the powersupplies of the two is measuring 8-9 volts while the other 12.3 on pcie and motherboard.

Can anyone please tell me the voltages of the pib cable and 24pin so I know for sure if the short is in the power distribution board or motherboard.

Thank you.

Hi,

I don't have the information about the PIB cable specification, there isn't any documentation that allow me to provide the numbers for you.

It seems you are quite a technical savvy person, have you already tried minimum post components on the server? Try removing all components except these below. Before you turn on the server, try removing the CMOS battery for approximately 30 secs. Then press and hold the power button for 15 secs without the external power cable connected to the power supply. Then with only the components below, try turning on the server after install the external power cable back into the power supply.

  • System board

  • One power supply unit (and for redundant PSU also the PIB)

  • CPU1 with heat sink (minimum for troubleshooting)

  • Single DIMM configuration with DIMM in socket A1

  • Control panel with cable (to power system on)
