Need to replace memory on a PE2850
I have an old, out of warranty, PE2850 that has a bad dimm in it. The server has a total of four 512MB dimms in it. We do not have any spare 512 dimms around so I was going to replace all the dimms with 1G dimms. Is that possible? What I mean is, will the server accept that configuration? Is it capable of supporting four 1-G dimms?
Thanks!

Yes that should be fine, as long as the memory is installed in matching pairs and you start with DIMM_1A and DIMM_1B.

As long as the DIMM's are single-rank DIMM's, there is really no reason (unless using a 32-bit OS) that you couldn't use two of your 512's too, for a total of 5GB. The 2850 will actually accept up to 4GB DIMM's in each of the first four slots for 16GB (single or dual-rank), or 2GB DIMM's in each of the six slots for 12GB (as long as all 6 DIMM's are single-rank).
Keep in mind the system memory specs:
PC2-3200 (DDR2-400MHz)
Registered ECC
