NTP settings R640
Hi,
We have just had delivered a new R640. I have a question about NTP.
The NTP settings have been populated the same as all our other Dell servers, but after 3 days, and resetting the DRAC it will not pick up the time from our NTP servers. The DRAC is on the same VLAN as all our other DRACs.
I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this from the DRAC interface.
Any ideas?

Hi,
What happens if you delete the NTP settings and then enter them again? What is it showing for the time now? Can you post a screenshot?

What version of the idrac firmware are you using? I tested with Australia/Sydney and it gave me the correct time.

Hi Josh,
I reset the settings and re-entered them. The time is showing as 10 hours behind where we are in Sydney. (I've change the ip settings just for the screen shot).

Hi Josh,
Just got around to updating the firmware which had some problems due to a bad seating of the Control Panel cable.
Unfortunately, 1 hour later, NTP is still not working. Not sure if this is too short a time???
Anything else to try??

What is the system clock set to? Can you try an external NTP server?

Hi Josh,
The clock is running exactly 13 hours behind current time in Sydney, Australia.
Unfortunately, I can't try an external NTP server.
As mentioned initially, a couple of hundred other Dell servers are getting their time fine from our internal NTP servers and the dracs are on the same VLAN.
The tech I had with me to reseat the Control Panel Cable this morning was baffled by this one too.
(A loose Control Panel Cable resulted in a strange hardware error and would not allow us to do any DRAC updates. Reseating the cable fixed this).

I mean the system time set in BIOS.

No worries.
Is there a place where we can ask for this to be included in RACADM?
(For the NTP issue I'll raise a local ticket with Dell Support to see if they have any ideas)

I do not see a way to check from the DRAC only from console or virtual console.

I can't reboot the server for several weeks now to get to the System time. :emotion-6:
(As an aside, this problem has come up before on the forums of resetting the time via the DRAC, getting system time etc without rebooting....Is there a hardware/sware reason why this could not be done via a racadm command, if such a command existed?...Just wondering)

I am not sure why it is not editable in the DRAC.
