PE 2650 doesn't boot when utility power is restored.

Is there an option in the bios or somewhere that i can have the server boot automatically after a power outage after the UPS restores utility power?

my stupid $900 dell at home does this no problem, but i can't get an $8000 server to do it!

I would also like to do this (utility power restore automatically boots server) with a 4300 and a powervauit 750N

Thanks,
-chris

Chris,

this behavior is by design. The most PowerEdge servers only know the setting "last state" if the power is restored. This is very good idea, because if you have a rack full of servers your fuse can not handle the start-up peak in the case all servers in this rack turns on at the same time (when power is restored).

Computer with Uninterruptible Power Supply Does Not Start After Power Loss Even After AC Power Is Restored

You have to configure your systems in a way, that they do not make a ACPI power off. Your MS Windows systems should shutdown to a screen with the message "It is Now Safe to Turn Off Your Computer".

Windows turns off the power after it shuts down the computer if a program calls the ExitWindowsEx or the InitiateSystemShutdownEx function

Thanks for the answer - now the only problem is that although M$ listed the issue in their Q article, you have to contact their support or wait for SP1.  at 250 bucks per incident, i really can't go there...

This hotfix is free. Please contact your local DELL Support.

That only works if you let your UPS shutdown, so that the server have no power at all. If the servers have power coming from the UPS, they will be at the screen which says "It is now safe to shutoff your server" until you manually reboot it.

Let's say UPS is set to shutdown 20 minutes after power outage. Servers have 20 minutes to shutdown. All server shutdown 7-10 later and are at the screen which says "It is now safe to shutoff your server". Power is restored at the 12th minute, and UPS shutdown is aborted. Servers never lost power and will now have to be manually restored.

What's the solution to this problem? My PE 1750 doesn't have a setting in BIOS for Last State, Always On or Always Off, therefore I can't control what happens in this situation.
