PE2300 CPU upgrade
hello
Sorry for my english :) french
i have PE2300 (440GX) and i want ugrade my cpu, actually i have a bi PIII 600Mhz 100FSB 2.0v
can i upgrade this by a PIII 1Ghz 133FSB 1.7v ? or the FSB must be same (100)?
the voltage must be same too ? (2.0v) or 1.7v is ok ?
my SDRAM is PC100 type.
I see this cpu : SL4BR / SL4KL (100FSB) and SL4BS / SL48S / SL4FP (133FSB)
The FSB must be same as my FSB ram ? (pc100 for example)

they MUST be the 100mhz FSB variety.
a better move would be to purchase the mother board from a Poweredge 2400 and put it into the 2300's case. (It will fit except you have to remove the plate that covers the ports since the 2400 has a different configuration on the back.) Then you can run the 133Mhz FSB chips.

That being said, there are some jumpers on the M/B that allows you to select the processor that the motherboard supports. Both processors sockets must be populated either with the same processor or the second slot is empty, ( it's been 20 years since I bought my PE2300, I forget if there is a terminator device that plugs into the 2nd processor connector or not) I still have my PE2300 and it still works, I have it currently installed as a single 500 MHz processor, I also have a 600 MHz processor that I was planning to upgrade it with. These are the original Dell parts.
