PE2950 II E5335 Unsuporrted CPU Combination
I recently purchased a PE2950 Gen II second hand and got it up and running with windows home server 2011. After getting it running, I wanted to upgrade it a litle and bought 2x E5335 processors, a 2nd heatsink and 16GB of ram.
I read up before upgrading and updated the Bios and BMC before installing everything and now im getting a "Unsuporrted CPU Combination". I switched back to the 5110 it had before and works just fine.
Is their else that needs to be updated?

BIOS is the most important. Anything short of the latest (2.7.0) could cause issues. BMC is not usually a deal-breaker for these types of upgrades (although it can be), but should always be updated with the BIOS. There is nothing else to be updated that would affect the compatibility.
Does the 'stepping' on the processors match exactly? The E5335 comes in G0 and B3, and if the two processors aren't the same, they won't work.
If the stepping matches and the BIOS is at the latest, you might try clearing the NVRAM using the jumpers on the motherboard.

The stepping does match. Both of them were pulled from a working machine. I did update to 2.7.0, I will try clearing the NVRAM.

just tried both of them in the first slot and got the same message.
im sure it is a revision II cause it has the II sticker in the top left hand side of the face of the server.

it didnt work. it still gives me the unsupported cpu combination.

Does each processor work alone in the first slot?
Are you sure this is a revision II?

What OS are you running, and do you have OMSA installed? If so, go to System, Main System Chassis, Information sub-tab to make sure the revision is reading 'II', then go to System, Main System Chassis, BIOS and ensure the BIOS version is reading correctly. I don't see any other reason for it not to work. Has the motherboard ever been updated/replaced?
