DRAC6 and DRAC7 do have different web capabilities.

 

 

 

You say the DRAC6 server "isn't displaying anything," but I really need you to extrapolate on what that means, in order to proceed. For example, are you able to log in and then the web browser shows you a bunch of undefined values? Or are you getting something else?

 

 

 

What web browser are you using to try to reach the DRAC6 system? Finally, is the R310 set up with a BMC, the iDRAC Express, or the iDRAC Enterprise?

I got a 6 Express Enterprise Kit for 0Y383M 0JPM33 for my DELL PowerEdge R310

This is the one I got, picture below:

 

I've tried it on Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox but the page does not display.

• I can access it via the iDRAC6 Configuration Utility when booting the server
• I can access some features via the OpenManage (Add/Edit User | IPv4/IPv6 Setup Basic Things Only)

It is physically installed and I had it setup to its default setup, firmware updated
Dell iDRAC Monolithic Release 2.92

OK, cool. Then you should be able to get a full web GUI that at least looks similar to what you see in the iDRAC7. 

 

With iDRAC issues, my very first troubleshooting step each time and everytime is an iDRAC reset. You can perform one locally by holding the i button on the server face until the fans spin up, or you can issue "racadm racreset -h" in a shell, provided you have OpenManage installed.

 

If that doesn't do it, the next most common thing with DRAC6, that I've seen, are browser compatibility issues. I'd try an older version of a browser, that's something I've seen work out on multiple occasions.

I've checked the service and indeed the problem is that it is not starting:

 

All those 3 other dependent services are all STARTED and RUNNING:

• Remote Procedure Call (RPC) WORKING
• DCOM Server Precess Launcher WORKING
• RPC Endpoint Mapper WORKING

 

I do not know what else could because not to allow that service to start.
I have Symantec Endpoint Protection active... could that be the cause?

The iDRAC Service Module provides some cross communication between the server and the iDRAC for logging purposes, but shouldn't be stopping us here. The reason I say that is because you can access an iDRAC with no OS on the server. What you're seeing isn't something I'd expect, but I don't think it's the problem, either. 

 

I'm absolutely going to sound like a Symantec hater - but I always turn it off for testing nearly any software issue I have. I've had nothing but problems with their software. Not to say their stuff is bad or anything, just I've had some bad luck.

 

Would you mind launching a command prompt and issuing "racadm getsysinfo" to confirm the iDRAC is responding? The iSM installer error you're sharing has me wanting to confirm. 

Shine is an awesome resource for the community for these types of issues. I'd definitely give what he suggested a try.

You are correct, with the service turned ON or OFF with iDRAC Module Service, does not change the fact that the Web Interface should show up. I tested it out on my PER720 and the iDRAC7 page shows up. Not sure what holds it on my PER310 and the iDRA6.

I know the feeling about Symantec, I've completely dropped it and testing things out but still nothing.

I was noticing that on the iDRAC7 I can ping idrac.local while on the iDRAC6, I cannot:
