Power Edge Server Not Booting?

I have a Power Edge T320. I've noticed that when I shut it down via Windows it won't start back up immediately when I press the power button.

I've tried holding the power button down for 10 seconds and then hitting it again but that doesn't alway work either.

After taking the cord out of the back of the power supply and putting it back in multiple times, waiting some time, pressing the information button I can usually get it to power back up.

Is this indicative of a forthcoming power supply issue? Is there some special way I'm supposed to power up these T320 Power Edge Servers after I shut the down?

Any insight would be most appreciated.

Mcuttino,

I would start off by getting the server up to date, specifically on the BIOS, iDrac, Controller, and there appears to be firmware updates (some marked as urgent) available for the power supply as well. If you let me know the versions you are currently at then I can let you know the best path to getting it up to date, if needed.

Let me know

Thanks for replying! Unfortunately, I checked for about 48 hours and then didn't think it was going to get a reply so I didn't notice it. The system came back on and worked for a while until the power died over the weekend and the UPS shut down the server. Now I can't get it to power on at all. I did the BIST test on the back of the power supply and the led never glowed green. This gave me the impression that the power supply is bad. Once I get the power supply on I'll update all of the firmware you noted. Do I need to walk it up or can I just go with the most recent version? I'm sure it is out of date. Could this firmware prevent the system from booting up even after I install a new power supply? I didn't see any indicator lights on this Power Edge 320 so I'm assuming there isn't one to use a troubleshooting tool. Did I overlook it? Anything else I can try to get it to power on? I want to order the power supply next day air tomorrow. Thankfully, this isn't a critical server so we're able to operate but I need to get it back online in the next few days and definitely this week if possible.

Hey there,

do you have a list of the actually installed firmware available? If you send it over we can check the best way to update as Chris already mentioned.

Cheers
Stefan
