Power Supply Wattage
Hello, we have a few R710s, R720s, and R720xd servers.
In regards to the power supplies on these machines, I logged into the iDRAC and I noticed the reading for PS1 is .6 Amps and 206 volts. The readings for PS2 are .2 Amps and 206 volts. It seems to be this way for all of the servers.
A few questions
1. Would the wattage for PS1 be 123.6 watts (.6 x 206) and the wattage for PS2 be 41.2 watts (.2 x 206)?
2. Why does PS1 utilize so much more power than PS2? Is there a way to make the power distribution more equal between the two power supplies?
I want to figure out how much power each server is consuming, knowing how much each power supply is drawing

So then based off the current readings I see in the iDRAC is there any way that the iDRAC can show me how much power is being consumed by the server? By each PS?

"Why does PS1 utilize so much more power than PS2?" For practical purposes, these power supplies do not use more or less power, difference is how much wattage a given PS can supply.
How much power a server uses cannot be figured out by what wattage a PS can supply. How much wattage a server uses (or a PS supplies) depends on which cpu you have, how much ram, how many drives and accessory devices you have.
You need something like this, but in a 220v model ...

You still need to use something like the Kill-a -Watt device to measure cumulative wattage used over a period of time,(eg. a cumulative readout of a week's wattage. Server use different amounts of power through out the day/week (eg) light vs. heavy disk usage, low vs. high CPU demand., peak hours vs. off hours. To get the total amount of power both PS use, you need a power cord with a Y split, with two ends, one for each PS, plugged into a Kill-a-Watt type device.

Thank you for the advice I do appreciate it.
Here's what I'm really wondering...Is one power supply suppose to draw more energy than the other (watts)? Is this how the power supplies work, by design? Or are they suppose to both draw around the same amount of energy (watts)?
I hope this makes sense.
