Poweredge 2300 w/ Windows Server 2003 - Intel 83271AB/EB controller

I have just installed Windows Server 2003 Standard Ed on a PowerEdge 2300 that was running NT4.0 server - all went well except I have one item in Device Manager that shows that the driver is wrong or it's not working properly - Under Universal Serial Bus controllers I have an "!" for Intel(R) 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller and the device status says "Your computer's system firmware does not include enought information to properly configure and use this device. To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update (code 35)". The driver file details have 4 drivers listed and they are all "signed" with the green checkmark - usbhub.sys, usbport.sys, usbuhci.sys, and usbui.dll.

I downloaded the BIOS v. A15 from Dell support and have contacted Dell Tech support via on-line chat and they gave me the ESM firmware to download. I followed their instructions and downloaded both and still have "!" - any ideas?

Hi - do you have the link to the EMS firmware - I am having trouble getting my 2300 upgraded.

Thanks and sorry to answer your question with a question.

The ESM Firmware zipped file is called  a40cust.exe  and it's on the Dell website under drivers and downloads for the PowerEdge2300 - look under Embedded Server Management - according to the Dell tech - unzip  a40cust.exe  and then save all the files, minus the 4 that have NT in the names, to a floppy - install the BIOS upgrade first (PE2300-BIOSA15.exe).  Then restart the computer with a Win98 boot disk and when it comes to the A prompt, switch the floppy to the ESM firmware floppy and type H8 at the A prompt and hit enter - it will automatically run the firmware upgrade. Hope that helps

Kvic - you are a star.:smileyvery-happy:

I've been searching these forums and the FAQ's all morning - and you answered it in one simple MSG.

Maybe this should go on the FAQ's for PE2300 - I upgraded my very old firmware an about 2 minutes. (I'd already upgraded the Bios)

Thanks again.
