PowerEdge 2500 power issues.

I'm not sure if its normal but one of the green lights blinks, it swaps as to which #1 or #2.

One day I checked the server and these were swapping back and forth very frequently with a noticeable switch clicking, also the orange led was blinking on the front of the server. All the powersupplies up front show fine. I tried to pull this rear unit out but its attached on the right somehow so I pushed it back in. The orange light no longer comes on. The recently installed dell management software just states the power on #2 was lost so its switching to #1, but no power was lost these are plugged into the same UPS outlet. It sounds to me like a sensor is bad on this pull out unit. I dont have a manual so I dont know what this unit is or its part number. I'd like to order a replacement before it completely dies. Do you know the part number of this unit or what its called? Also is there somewhere I can download a manual showing me part numbers for this PowerEdge 2500, we bought it second hand so I have no manuals. NOTE just plugging the power into #1 or #2 it finds nothing wrong.

Hi,

It is normal for one LED to blink (standby) and the other solid green (working). It is also normal from them to switch if the Power Distribution Board (PDB) detects an anomaly in the power quality.

It is recommended to connect one power cord to a UPS and the other either directly into the wall or another UPS, but on a different power circuit.

The latest System BIOS and ESM Firmware sometimes helps if the PDB swithes too often.
Dell Server System BIOS, PowerEdge 2500 / 2500SC, A07
FileName: 2500-A07.exe [520 KB]

Dell ESM Firmware, PowerEdge 2500 / 2500SC, A54
Filename: a54cust.exe (405 KB)
Note: Extract the files to a DOS bootable floppy disk. Boot the server to this floppy disk, and run smflsh.exe.

If none of these suggestions help, the part number for the PDB is 6C822. Dell spare parts can be reached by phone at 1-800-357-3355.
