PowerEdge 6850 CPU Support???

I am having problems with my PowerEdge 6850.  I have a RD318 A02 Motherboard. It has the lastest and greatest bios update.  I have installed 2 intel 7130m cpus.  When i try to install a 3rd cpu it wont start up.  Now can anyone tell me why can i not get past 2 cpu mark?

I have installed 4 total of the exact step and model.  Well tell me why does it  works for 2x 7130m? But why wont it work with 4x 7130m?

You said "latest and greatest" BIOS ... is it currently at A06?

The 7130m does support a 4-processor configuration, but did you confirm the processor is indeed supported in the 6850?  The BIOS code may be able to make it run with 2, but it may not know how to implement the features of that processor in a 4-proc configuration.

If it is confirmed supported by Dell for the 6850 and your BIOS is up to date, I'm not sure what to tell you might be wrong - possible DOA proc?  Did you try each one in a 2-proc config to be sure they're all good?

You cannot run a 4-proc system on 3 procs.  They must be installed in 1, 2, or 4-proc configurations.

Also, ALL CPU's must match exactly ... not just the same model, but the same stepping code too.

Have you confirmed the 7130m is a supported processor for the 6850?  Not all processors that fit will work.

as far as "If it is confirmed supported by Dell for the 6850" these guys dont really tell you a whole lot.  Which sucks big...  Ive looked around and saw other poweredge 6850's "Example: http://cgi.ebay.com/Poweredge-6850-4-x-DC-3-2Ghz-8GB-3-x-146GB-PE6850-/380284716646?pt=COMP_EN_Servers&hash=item588abc4666"

Your mainboard should support those processors. Are you installing the VRMs for procs 3 and 4? You will need part number YC902 for those VRMs

Yes Sir 2 YC902 VRM's.  What it does is when i push the power button instead of a fan speed gush it just stays at a low speed and shows a e1000 misconfiguration!!

Do you also have the cache VRM PD838 installed?

@ges4th, I am experiencing the same issue, but I at least have 2x 6800s that do work to compare to. I do have 2x YC902s, but I am missing the PD838 that veltech referenced. I might have to pick those up.

Hello, I received a Dell Power Edge 6850 for using an application running on Windows Server 2008 R2, also I'm a rookie on this server thing, I just have experience running smaller servers for small companies. It came with 2 processors Xeon 7020.

Recently I bought 2 more processors with the exact model or numbers that are on the processors plate, thinking on get the best performance It can have. But when I turned on the Server nothing happens, you just can hear the fans running at low speed, but doesn't boot up.

Please tell me what's wrong, I'm an amateur and I spent a lot of money on the upgrade and making this thing running, maybe I need something else to make the four processors running, but I don't know.
