PowerEdge R610 Memory upgrade question...
We have an old PowerEdge R610 server that we are trying to turn into a BDC. It originally came with 4 GB of ram and we just want to double it (it will do nothing else). I've purchased the exact same memory that's already in it (2 2GB DDR3 Dual ranked sticks)... I put them in A2 and A5 (CH 1 as the other two sticks are in A3 & A6 or CH0). But after doing that, now I'm getting "Multi-bit error encountered" inside of Dell OSA... and it's reporting this on A2 and A3. I've been trying to figure out which banks I should put this in properly, but I'm just confused. Any suggestions would be helpful here, please. This is also a single CPU system. Thanks!

Hi, "Multi-bit error" ->This is an Hardware error.

I really don't think it's diagnostics, as it's showing one of the original memory modules and one of the new ones, being in error. and from what I've read elsewhere, this is not uncommon if they are not put in the correct order... thus the reason for my question here.

Multi-bit memory errors indicate a hardware failure with the related DIMMs, not a configuration error. Errors can look misleading sometimes when there is problem with one DIMM in a channel. It can sometimes look like a larger issue. You can certainly troubleshoot this. I'd recommend removing all memory from the server and installing a DIMM in A1 only (in a single proc configuration, B1 as well, if dual proc config). You can cycle through all of your DIMMs to test each individually. As for memory configurations, I would refer you to the manual. There isn't enough information in your post to tell if there is a config issue. Pages 116-120 of the manual should provide the info you need.
