PowerEdge R710 No Memory was Detected

Hi,

We bought 18 pieces X 8GB of RAM to upgrade our PowerEdge R710. There are 2 channels, 9 modules for each channel.

Took out the existing RAMS (6 X 4GB) and fill up all modules in both Channels (A, B) with the new RAMs.

But the server couldn't boot up. The screen on the R710 shows No memory wast detected. Check DIMM.

we have to remove sticks on the 3rd module for both Channels to get the server booted. Having only 12 instead of 18 sticks in the server.

The model of the RAM is: KTD-PE310Q8/8G

I checked the memory setting for the server is "optimized mode". The spec for the RAM does support RDIMM: SEE SPEC

Please advise what is the problem of full load 18x8GB of DIMM onto R710, service tag if you need is

Cheers.

Don't go over dual ranked memory. At the R710's release I think 8GB was only available as quad ranked, but nowadays 8GB dimms exist in dual rank. Keep in mind that with 3 dimms per memory channel the memory speed does decrease to 800MHz. More information about memory population can be found in the "Hardware Owner Manual" that's available on Dell's support site (

).
