PowerEdge R720xd Chassis Extremely Hot
I have two new PowerEdge R720xd servers. The chassis are extremely hot. (Turbo is disabled, system profile is set to Performance Per Watt). Compared to my 11G servers, these R720s feel like a coffee pot burner constantly on.
Is anyone else having this issue? Is this normal (i.e. if you compare your R720s to your 11G or older servers, are the R720 chassis dramatically hotter)?

What is the OS installed on the server? Depending on the OS we may be able to run a Dset report, or install OpenManage Server Admin, to see what is going on.

WIndows Server 2012 Standard (Build 9200). I have OpenManage installed and ran DSET a number of times. The internal temperatures shown seem to be running within warning threshold ranges. On one of the servers, it shows:
System Board Inlet Temp 26.0 C (Min 3 Max 42)
System Board Exhaust Temp 47.0 C (Min 8 Max 70)
CPU1 Temp 60.0 C (Min 8 Max 95)
CPU2 Temp 57.0 C (Min 8 Max 95)
The fans are running between 5160 and 6240 RPM.
However, the chassis are incredibily hot, almost like an electric stove top. I'm trying to determine if this is normal for the 12G servers. My 11G (and older) servers are a little warm, but nothing like this. The 12G servers don't show the system board ambient temperature in DSET or OpenManage, my 11G servers show about 23 C, which seems correct.

Can you tell what device is right on the inside from that hot spot?

Sorry, no. The heat is on the top and bottom of the chassis with the hottest parts starting toward the middle half through the back. The heat is evenly distributed. I have 12 3.5inch 15K drives in the front, but nothing added in the back (it has two 1100W power supplies and a 4x1GbE Broadcom daughter card in the back, no additional cards).
