PowerEdge T30 - how to create RAID 1?

The T30 is similar to our client workstations. This article should go over how to configure RAID using IRST.

If RAID is enabled you should see a prompt on the screen to press CTL I to enter the IRST utility. If you are seeing that option but it is not loading then it may be an issue with the keyboard input.

Check the boot mode. The IRST BIOS configuration may only be accessible in certain boot modes. If it is only accessible in a certain boot mode it should be okay for you to change the boot mode, configure the virtual disk, and then change to the desired boot mode for installation.

RAID is enabled, but the prompt to press CTL I to enter the IRST utility is not displayed. Also, pressing CTL I from the keyboard does not help. Keyboard checked, it works fine.

To access onboard raid options you must make sure that inside of the bios under the sata configuration you are using RAID not AHCI. Then reboot and use F12 and and select Device Configuration under Other Options. There you will find the RAID setup options for either RAID 0 or RAID 1.

I disagree with this strongly. We had a couple of PET140 units that didn't come with H330 PERC controllers and we tried this. It works, but God help you if you need any performance out of it. Reboots can take upwards of 40 minutes (and that's when a consistency check isn't required).

Go with the onboard RAID (or, much better yet, get a dedicated PCIe RAID card if you're able). You'll be glad you did.

If Dell T30 Server Bios is Updated old Commands did not Work (Ctrl-i),

You need to use new commands like T40 Server,

Restart - f12- Device configuration

Now you can see the Raid settings
