Poweredge T710 Raid Controller

Good Afternoon Dell Support. I have a quick question on a T710 supported raid controllers, we are looking to replace the current PERC 6/I (Part # T954J) controller due to it failing with T774H which is also a PERC 6/I controller, however when we turn on the system we are prompted with "Invalid PCIe card found in Internal Storage slot. System Halted", but if we install this card in a 2900 it boots fine, which is also on the supported device list.

There are numerous web sites that state that this controller card(T774H ) works in this specific model of server, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bios has been updated to the latest version

AndrewR2016,

The reason is due to the difference in cards, and likely where you are trying to install it. The T954J is a Perc 6/I Integrated, where the T774H is an adapter version. There are supported adapter versions of the Perc 6/i for the T710, but the T774H doesn't show to be one of them. The reason you are likely seeing the error though is due to trying to install an adapter version in the Integrate Storage slot, and not in the standard PCI slots. The T954J is an Integrated version, so it is designed to work from that Integrated Storage Slot.

Let me know if this helps clarify things.

What is the firmware level on the new PERC 6? It may work, but it may be out of date.

Is it the "integrated" version? or the "adapter" version? The "internal storage slot" is designed only for specific validated RAID cards ... the firmware on the adapter and integrated versions are a little different, and will make a difference which one you use in which slot. The adapter version will only work in a non-dedicated storage slot.

Did you also update the iDRAC/LCC before you updated the BIOS?

You said a 2900 booted fine with it in there, which is why I asked, but regardless of being able to check it, the firmware level can still matter. There is a minimum firmware level for the PERC 6 to work on 11G systems, as it was also a validated controller for 9G/10G servers. Point is probably mute though if indeed you are using an adapter version in the integrated slot (although it still could be an issue with an integrated version with old firmware).

Dell-Chris H, I believe you have the correct answer I am visiting the site today to validate. I thought it was a direct replacement to the current integrated raid controller  and just wanted to verify, by chance do you have a list of supported part numbers for the integrated raid controller for the T710?

TheFlash, I am unable to verify the version of firmware on the New PERC, due to not having a system available to test with

Part T954J  looks to be the lone Perc 6/I Integrated available for the server
