PowerEdge VRTX and M620 blade

Hello all,

I purchased a used VRTX chassis on eBay and seem to be having a ton of issues with it.

I first found out that the chassis midplane had grounded out and scorched the back of the blower cage as I went to re-seat them once I got into the CMC and saw the errors. The whole blower cage pulled out while trying to pull a single blower in doing so. What else I noticed is that there was no Midplane. I contacted the seller and they pulled apart another unit and sent me the midplane from it. the unit now sees the blowers and the power supplies and the I/O module but the I/O module is unknown and I cannot configure it. the Blowers all show critical 0 RPM, but are showing green before I power on the chassis and then go amber. I also have an M620 blade that I have purchased the PCI Mezz adapters for and in trying to install this get nothing? The blade does not show up as even installed in a slot!

Anyone have and recommendations on how to troubleshoot the issue(s) so I can get this working?

Thank you!

Hello

the chassis midplane had grounded out and scorched the back of the blower cage

Any time there is an electrical discharge that damages components it has the ability to damage several components. When you encounter an issue like this it usually requires replacement of more than one component.

There are a lot of components that are part of the VRTX system board. The slots the nodes attach, CMC, and many other components are contained within the system board. The system board is between the midplane and the fans. If there was an electrical arc that went from the midplane to the fans then it likely damaged the system board.

I would suggest reseating everything and making sure everything is properly connected. I would also try to update the CMC firmware if you can. If nothing changes then you will likely need to replace the VRTX system board.

Thanks
