PW 2900 Memory upgrade - memory not supported

Trying to upgrade the memory on one of our Poweredge 2900 servers going from 4 - 1Gig 533 to 4 - 4Gig. When I pull the 1 gig sticks and install the 4 gig sticks in the same spots (slots 1,2,3,4) and I get a 'No memory Installed' message at power on. I tried leaving the 1 gig's in slots 1 and 2 and placing 2 of the 4 gigs in slots 3 and 4, the system will post and halt saying that the new memory is not supported. I updated the Bios and BCM to the latest revisions and that didn't help. Going to test out the memory on another server but won't be able to do that until later this evening. The memory should be comaptible according the specs 4GB 2RX4 PC2-5300F-555-11-E0-D5

Any suggestion on what I might be missing here?

Thanks for the info. Tried the memory in a different 2900 last night and it didn't work in that one either so it is going back to the vendor.

Nope, couldn't get any of the sticks to work. Kept coming up with the no memory installed message on power up.

Will any of the (or all) four 4GB sticks work when installed in the first slot by itself ... no other memory installed - just the first slot?

I'm not sure if the "F" in the "2RX4 PC2-5300F-555-11-E0-D5" description stands for Fully Buffered or something else, as you usually see "FB" in the description of fully buffered memory.

Here  you can see the Crucial memory that's certified and they explicitly show the "Fully Buffered" part.

The same applies to Dell's page for 2 x 4GB for the 2900 here  (if you check the tech specs tab).
