R540 2nd CPU & Memory Configuration
Hello Everybody,
I have a Dell Poweredge R540 with 1 CPU (Xeon Silver 4110 (DP/N: 7KW7T) AND 2 X 16 GB 3200 MT/S RDIMM (DP/N: FM38U) Sticks installed.
I will be installing a 2nd CPU, exact same model & park number as CPU #1, but I have different memory already on hand that I would like to use instead of buying new sticks. I would be installing these 2 x 16GB 2666 MT/S RDIMM sticks (DP/N:M1G12) on the memory slots for the 2nd CPU.
I just want to make sure this will work ok and have a good understanding of the potential effects it may have. I understand there will be a performance hit using the slower memory, but I'm not too concerned with it as I don't use memory intensive applications. I have a more CPU/GPU heavy workload. Will the 1st CPU operate with its 2 RAM chips at 3200 and the 2nd CPU operate with its 2 RAM chips at 2666, or will it slowdown the 3200 chips to match the 2666 speed? All in all I want to make sure it works and is stable. The memory speed decrease is not a big concern for me.
Thank you all and have a great day.
