R620 boot from SATA into Windows 2019 Hyper-V?
I have an R620 with 64Gb RAM that I'm planning to setup for VM's with Windows Server 2019 Hyper-V. The plan is to remove the DVD drive and replace with a 250Gb SATA SSD. That will be the boot drive onto which is loaded Server 2019 Hyper-V. There will be four 3TB drives in RAID 6 config to provide 6TB storage with twin drive failure redundancy. This volume will be used for various VM's and data storage. The VM's will be for IIS and SQL Server, and maybe 2 or 3 Windows 10 VM's for general Visual Studio .Net development. An external backup procedure will be implemented.
Does this sound like a plausible/reasonable setup?

Typo above, drives will be configured as RAID 10, not RAID 6

Only thing is that you can have issue to install Windows 2019 in the R620 because is not supported for this server.

I'm concerned about being able to replace the DVD with a sata ssd and booting from it. I've never seen that done before. I'm not saying it wont work, I've just never seen it done that way on this mode of system.

Thanks for responding. I have seen several people do it. You can even purchase a purpose built caddy to mount the sata in that gracefully replaces the DVD drive. It's a really neat solution.

Noted, but I have seen it done successfully. Search YouTube for "Dell R620 - adding an SSD Drive and installing Windows Server 2019"

Yes, it could work, but I cannot officially guarantee that it will work.
